Such a thought provoking piece, Alex … a counter to the col counting, Strava saving, mileage measurement and league listing we are all tempted to get involved in along the way.
What a wonderful selection this week Barrie...thank you for introducing me to so much other content that normally I wouldn't see. One I do read regularly is Susie's publication - her posts are always beautifully expressed yet this weeks felt so much more pertinent to current times.
So happy our trail of breadcrumbs is leading you to new treasures and old favourites. Susie is such a powerful writer … hers is a book I’d devour if one ever appeared.
Another beautiful collection of eclectic wonders - the ‘summerhouse’ interiors… just wow! We have a summerhouse that Mr P built in the garden, and we love it, but it’s not nearly so impressive as these Scandinavian ones. The artwork too, from Duri - arrestingly beautiful. So delightful to see photos of your adventures, they are stunning, did you have to cycle through that flood under the bridge!?
I adore Susie’s latest letter (I adore all her letters), and I am humbled to be included among such gorgeously curated snapshots, thank you Barrie and JoJo xx
Ha, yes …. no other way to go other than through the flood. It wasn’t the last one either. All part of the adventure. Such a wet day but the wind blew later in the day to dry me.
We love Susie’s words too. And yours really slid into our emotions as good writing should. Such a pleasure to ripple them on. Wonderful if even one other reader finds them and is touched by them. Thank you so much for reading our little collection. 💛
Just back today. The temperature is lower for the next couple of days, courtesy of a storm that narrowly missed us in the Vienne. A few spits and spots of rain. We really could do with a downpour but I think high winds are promised. Thank you for reading, as ever … such a lovely encouragement to know folk find jewels in the collections - yours included. Emily’s piece really struck a chord too.
Such an admirer not just of Susie’s words but also her determination to weave a creative practice into a crazy busy life. I’m sure that meeting will happen before long, Betty.
Thank you Betty - I am counting on that meet up very soon. I know we both keep saying it, and life keeps us apart but let’s say soon and do our best to make it so!!
I hope you’re aren’t too badly hit by the storm… we have no power here and much tree damage - heaven knows what’s down the lane! X
Still no power, we have a generator but Im not sure I Can cope with the constant thump, hump of the diesel engine… dire need only! Which is getting close as I have a freezer full, my fridge is already warm inside and of course worst of all, none of us have any battery left on phones or computers 😬
Still no power… the EDF man said at least 48 hours - we have the genny running to save fridge and freezer contents - just about to begin a big clean up outside! It’s utter carnage but thankfully no damage to people or buildings !
Well shared!
A fab entry as always, and thanks so much for the kind mention!

Komorebi - I'm going to hold on to that - the idea of "sunlight leaking through the trees". Awesome
It’s such a favourite word … and such a beautiful happening to seek out.

All part of the adventure indeed! I hope it was a warm, drying wind!! 💛
I think I encountered every kind of weather … all about the right clothing not the wrong weather!
Barrie, as always a delightful collection of words and images - your own especially. And I adored Emily’s beautiful heartfelt poem!
Thank you so much including my last post, I am as humbled as ever!
If you’re still in Portugal, you are missing a major storm here… !

So lovely to see Susie mentioned. Her writing is a marvel -- I'm a paid subscriber!
Do you know we are in the same department, although about an hour away from each other?
We crossed paths on Instagram first and now on Substack. No physical meet-up yet but I'm sure it will happen soon.

That storm sounds fierce. Hope power is restored soon, Susie. Do take care.

Hoping for a speedy resolution, Susie. Fingers crossed for the freezer full 🤞

My goodness … what a year of weather - you’ve had it tough. Sending hugs from us.
Will reply by DM.
