What a lovely story about your Brownie. And thank you very much for the mention. I’ve been trying to recall how we first became aware of each other on ye olde Twitter. You’ve taken me back in time seeing those 1000 Steps photos. I should return to it - it’s a good practice for observation and as a visual diary.
On another note, the wise Dr Steve is dipping his toes over on Bluesky. As Neil Milton says, it feels like early Twitter. Maybe see you there (although I should perhaps not tempt you with yet another social media platform given your recent declarations!).
I think a lot of us were swirling around Twitter when communities could form and vitriol could be kept at bay … I’m sure it was then … Steve and I were booked in for a chat but he was taken ill. I must check in and reschedule. Thanks for the Bluesky thinking but I’m thinning out for sure! Thanks so much for the recommendations. Looking forward to this month’s Jotter already!
I was just saying to JoJo yesterday, we often look around for the next new thing and neglect our own archive … of ideas and creativity. I was pondering how to catching our upcoming (Autumn) interrail trip … ‘Feasts and Fables’ is a perfectly good tagline, and we have a lovely website that is perfect for blogging and picture galleries.
Yes, there’s so many things to read and share. I still like to re-read your Audience of One post. It articulated so well my beliefs (which I hadn’t distilled at that point).
I’m looking forward to reading about your interail adventures. I’ve been wanting to do the same but it will have to be another year… we have a puppy arriving in a couple of weeks!
Barrie and JoJo, as always you are the epitome of kindness and encouragement - thank you so much for the mention, I wish I could add to your repertoire of fabulous photographers but no surprise, you have already mentioned those that I do... I will keep my eyes open just in case any have slipped passed your eager eyes though!
We have so many folk to peek into, Susie … your images weave themselves into your storytelling so beautifully - we’re delighted to give them the stage.
Barrie and JoJo, Thank you ever so much for including me in your weekly "Celebration," you totally made my day! I would like to recommend Shital Morjaria's photography at "Living Pictures." I really enjoy her work. Also Neil Barker at "Meditations on Nature" and James Freitas at "Rock and Hawk."
Such a pleasure to gently spread the ripples … and for them to come back to us in the form of your lovely recommendations, Pamela. I have a lot of folk to catch up on!
My two cents... Patrick Witty's Field of View and Michael Shaw's Reading The Pictures are excellent for photography criticism, if you're into that sort of thing :)
I love these Encouragement Files, Barrie. Thanks so much for finding and recommending new sites to us! Golly, I am glad to find Andrew Eberlin!
Intriguing original black and white cityscape and "people" photography can be found at @Kenneth Mills (Dispatches) and GLORIOUS color work at @Sheila Moeschen ( Stay Curious ) I have used many of their photos ( by permission ) to inspire my micro-fiction!
The great Substack sea is monstrously large. It is a miracle that the small Islands find each other. Thank all the gods for the generous referrals from other writers.
Thank you for saying, Sharron. That means a lot … it’s always hard starting something new and wondering how it will land. You’ve been super encouraging from the beginning. Andrew is a lovely fella, as well as being talented.
And thank you for the recommendations. I’ll be sure to check them out.
there are so many that i could recommend but for the moment let's start with what i like to call my muses: Susanne Helmert (My visual jouney), Juliette (The additional F-stop), Manuela Thames (Undone) , Nat (Thought Jam)
What great company, thanks for including me!
A great pleasure. The more I looked, the more I discovered what a vibrant community the photography world is.
So many wonderful photographers mentioned already - take a look at Chris Sale, beautiful work from the Lake District
Thank you so much for the suggestion. Absolutely love the Lake District. We’ll be sure to peek in.
Fantastic!! So much wonderful art!! Cheers !
Thanks so much … what a wonderfully enthusiastic response. I love the energy in the comments, with recommendations and encouragement aplenty!
Great recommendations!
Thank you so much … it’s such fun pulling these together and seeing who folk add to the list. ‘Travel’ next week.

PS Other recommendations, I echo earlier mentions of Susanne Helmert and Shital Morjaria. Plus Søren K Harbel, Xavi Buendia and Neil Scott.
Thank you, Andrew! And I am glad to see you mentioned in here!
It was nice to be reminded of those photographs. A small visual journey of my own!

Aw, hoping there’ll be puppy photos aplenty!
Yes, the rail trip, truly taking my milestone birthday and squeezing it for all the excuses it offers to spoil us! We will over share, for certain!
I was just sharing the ‘audience of one’ piece with an encouragee the other day. I’m pleased it still chimes.

Beautifully put.

Awe, thanks so much!
Looking forward to checking out these recommendations. I think I remember Susanne from a collab you did but the others are new to me.
No pressure. Notes is a great place to play.
