Thank you so much for including me in this! I was on holiday when this came through and I had saved all your Encouragement for when I was back at work and stumbled on the mention. Made my day! 😍

Wow. So many cool Substackers to follow. Excellent list. I do like the quote about everything in reality being messy and it all depends on how we look at it. We each truly have our own unique perspective, which is why it's important that we share them with each other. Outstanding post.

Hopefully they are the sort of ‘coffee table magazines’ you can dip in and out of on long journeys in train station waiting rooms. Adding to the pile same time next week … sorry!!

The night train to Lapland reminded me of the only overnight train I've ever taken from the seaside resort in Hua Hin to Penang which was a far cry from the clean and comfortable Finnish affair, I had to sleep on my backpack just to ensure it was still there in the morning and the cabin was the whole carriage... you can imagine the noise - an experience to say the least! Thanks Barrie, another lovely read as always!

I dog sat in a very fancy condo with a conversation pit and I almost fell in about a dozen times, despite knowing it was there.

they're cool looking but in the middle of the night, trying to get to the kitchen, they are not your friend.

Thanks for all this cool stuff Barrie. If you are not yet familiar with it, The Sami ( Laplanders) have a strange and wonderful folk music tradition called joiking. So interesting. Here is an example FYI. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2_gnoljjBW8&ab_channel=Gammaldans

JoJo has a cousin in Växjö so there, for sure … Gothenburg appeals … wide open to suggestions. In April 2020, we were due to stay on Öland but we all know how that ended. Some unfinished business.

Ah, Växjö I don't know very well. Gothenburg is lovely, and if you are into street art I would do a daytrip to a nearby town called Borås. But other than that I don't know, I mostly travel in the north. And inland I would say Dalarna is Fantastic!

Great suggestions, thank you … we love street art … there’s a town near us - Angoulême - which has loads of street art and a graphic art museum, with an annual manga festival. I haven’t heard of Dalerna … looking forward to learning more.

Oh an annual manga festival sounds amazing! There's also a neat textiles museum in Borås :)
