Always a joy to see you pop up in the comments, dear Matt … I was thinking of you as I spotted your canal side walk home from the Avonfield Kitchen. I was wondering if it might be a good place to meet for a coffee/cake as I pedal through. Just thinking aloud. I’ll DM. Bx
Always a breath of fresh air Barrie... thank you for calming moments and sharing of so much I wouldn't have seen (the waves - wow!) or read (Micheal Beechams beautiful Downs Project - I lived at the foot of the South Downs for 21 years of my life) Matt Inwoods memoire writing is extraordinary every time.
Love that you’ve picked my favourites … it’s such a joy to read all these things and to know I get to ripple them out to folk who’ll love them too. Thanks for reading and the kind words, Susie.
Just love the places your lens pointed … you really captured the build up, the way the community is involved … as well as the stories of the women. Fabulous. A pleasure to share, Lynn.
Matt Inwood! Yes. He paints such extraordinary word-images. His fragments fairly sparkle from the page -- so evocative. I don't know the man, personally, but I am glad he is getting the recognition he well deserves. Thanks for pointing him out to your readers.
Matt is a lovely friend we have known for quite a few years. We went to one of his iPhone photography masterclasses in the château in France we were married in. Long story! He’s such a kind and gentle soul; brilliant writer. Amazing art director and editor too. Hope his words make their way into a published volume. They deserve to.
Retirement! Je suis retraite! Capacity and inclination combine! I’d be reading and loving the pieces anyway and it is a joy to gather them together in this format. Thanks for the kind words.
Well, there you have it! I'm retirement aged but not retired yet. I really want to find more time for all aspects of Substack, though, especially writing mine!
Half a lifetime in uniform gave me the chance to shape this stage of life differently. We live a modest sized life with time our biggest gift back to ourselves.
Many Mille Mercis Jo Jo and Barrie for the kind words and good company (Yay, Will Cooper!) as it is this continued shared encouragement that keeps us all writing. Right?
So happy to share the gorgeousness that our curiosity has surfaced. There is so much gold to be found and rippled out. Thank you so much for peeking in, Pamela.
Sorry to see your kind mention late. Thank you: I'll make sure the first copy comes your way if ever a book should find its paper form! x

It could work very well as a stopping point! Let me know and I’ll make sure I’m free. x
Fingers crossed … pencil the 4th June in as coffee and cake with an old fella day! x
Some great creatives here and much food for the soul - my big takeaway this week is Sarah Farley's work, so thank you for this.
So happy that you found Sarah’s work … such a lovely person and a fascinating angle, connecting our creativity to movement.
Chateau and gateau has me salivating
We have a favourite cake shop for refuelling on the long rides. A must!

Much goodness to read. Thanks for including me (again) 🙏🏻🙂

Thanks for the love for my "In Search of Beautiful Things (and Creative Inspiration" community photo series!
Just love the way people respond to the prompt.
There’s some marvellous things here - Michal Pelka’s wave photos and Matt Inwood’s memoir are lovely standouts.
Thanks so much for including me in your post 💚
Always a joy to see your posts.
Two of my favourites too. Thanks for peeking in, Sarah.

I love reading your discoveries, and finding friends mentioned here. But how do you find the time to do this?

Our pleasure, of course, Kate. We all need the warm ripples of encouragement to wash over us.
Another fine read, thank you
Thanks so much, Mark, very kind!
What a lovely gathering of beautiful things to see, and new Substackers to discover! Thank you both for this wide ranging feast!

You are the place for discovery! What a terrific and generous post.
Thank you so much, Mary. It is such a pleasure to gather up all the inspiration and ripple it out. Lovely kind words. We’re encouraged!! X
