How delicious to find a site like this called Feasts and Fables….sounds like a magic carpet of delights ….an antidote to ugly and disgusting (literally stomach turning) things happening everywhere in this precious world….and sadly ….some wars are bloodless but no less lethal….if not more so ….
So happy you’ve found us … and ‘yes’ to a counter narrative, a glance at the upbeat and optimistic. The bad stuff happens … but good stuff too. Shining a light on that helps us, for sure.
And thank you for the kind encouragement … it feels like a very natural complement to our other newsletter, and so good to be able to focus, largely, on Substack voices (with a scattering of eclectic ‘other’).
Ah, yes, borderline ‘racy’ … I should remember my mum reads my stuff!!
"Ticket, Sir?" Ha ha ha ha! Pretty darned steamy, if you ask me. I have ridden on hundreds of European trains over many years and never had any experience like that. (Rotten luck. ) I loved this little story. It is exactly what I look for on Substack. ( Is this a Barrie story or a JoJo story?) In any case, more please. As far as recommendations, if I could subscribe to only ONE substack writer, it would be Jim Cummings, for his intriguing plots, his masterful dialog and his beautiful use of our language.
Ah, fab reminder to me to read more of Jim’s excellent tales.
And, thank you … yep, the fictioneer is Barrie, the ‘Fables’ part of the ‘Feasts + Fables’ team … I’m excited that JoJo is on here in her own guise now; gorgeous photos, local scenes, some running, the good life.
I have a modest collection of slightly ‘cheekier’/racy offerings (way more show than tell, to spare my own blushes (and my mum reads my stuff!) … they’re fun once in a while. And there are a few for JoJo’s eyes only!
Just looked at your website..it’s pretty good….will be seeing you again soon x
Thank you so much ☺️

Thanks for peeking in!
Ahh Barrie, I do so love what you're doing here, I'm so grateful for this, not so distant and definitely not too distant, friendship.
Your stories get better and better, what a cheeky train ride!
Enormous thanks for sharing my poem, I really must consider having a glass of whiskey in the small hours more often!
Yes to whiskey!

Hehe… Your mum was young once too Barrie and it was only borderline!
True, I’ve written much saucier!
Thank you very much kind people!!!
Such a great pleasure. Keep up the fabulous flow of words and thoughts.
